Biography

Henri Chomette (1896–1941) was a French actor, screenwriter and film director known for Le chauffeur de Mademoiselle (1928), Autour d'une enquête (1931) and Night in May (1934). During his life, Henri Chomette lived in the shadow of his brother René Clair. Nevertheless Henri preceded René in the world of cinema. Very early on, he broke with the teaching of his teachers and participated in the avant-garde movement by constructing a theory of "pure cinema", which gave great importance cutting and editing. He died on June 15, 1941 in Rabat, Morocco.
